C.J. Osborn

C.J. Osborn, 86, a member of the Michigan Harness Racing Hall of Fame and MHHA Lifetime member, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in Jackson, Mich.

Osborn was known for his expertise at conditioning 2- and 3-year-old trotters and pacers and always recording a high Universal Rating as both a driver and trainer; he won North American UDR titles in 1979 and 1980.

During the summer of 1979, Osborn and his family set 33 county fair track records across the state of Michigan, and captured 11 of the 16 available fair circuit championships.

Osborn said his finest memory was winning the Matron Stakes at Wolverine Raceway that same year with the trotting filly Fancy Arbor, 3, 1:59.4 ($167,931).

C.J. Osborn was inducted into the Michigan Harness Racing Hall of Fame in 1993.
