Hazel Park Raceway’s Ken Marshall dies at 78

Longtime Hazel Park Raceway director of racing and current director of racing operations at the suburban Detroit racetrack Kenneth E. Marshall, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 5. He was 78.

Mr. Marshall was also a longtime director of the U.S. Trotting Association, first elected to the board in 1988, Mr. Marshall was the chairman of USTA District 2.

He had in excess of 50 years experience as a harness racing official and track manager, serving primarily in Florida, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Michigan. At the time of his death, Mr. Marshall was the director of racetrack operations at Hazel Park Racing, Inc.

Mr. Marshall was inducted into the Michigan Harness Racing Hall of Fame. He also received the State of Michigan Commissioners’ Award of Excellence.

He was a past president of the American Harness Racing Secretaries and a graduate of Miami University.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three children; and three grandchildren.
