John Campbell


On Saturday February 11, 2012, John Malcolm Campbell, 93, died peacefully at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon Michigan. John was born in Hopkins, Michigan, the son of Dr. James D. and Bessie Campbell. John was married to Anibel Grace Campbell for 62 years whom he had met as a teenager at the soda fountain at Tripp’s Drug Store in Allegan. John was a mail carrier and as…sistant postmaster at the Allegan Post Office for 33 years before retiring at age 55. John and Grace enjoyed many blessed years of retirement together splitting their time between Allegan and Sarasota Florida, prior to Grace’s death in 2001. John was a World War II veteran, and enjoyed his involvement in community activities including The Allegan Community Players, Past President of The Rotary Club, and as a Little League Coach in Allegan for 16 years. John took special pride in his service to the Allegan Fair Board as the longest serving Fair Board member in the history of the Allegan Fair. In 1944, John assumed the role of Allegan Fair’s racing speed secretary, a role previously held by his father and subsequently assisted by his son Roger. John is survived by his devoted children, Jerry Campbell and his wife, Lisa of Jackson, Roger Campbell of Saginaw, Beth Campbell of Mound, MN, Don Campbell and his wife, Cynthia of Norton Shores, and Ross Campbell and his wife, Lauren of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren: Joelle VanAlstine and Jeffrey Campbell, Brent and Brian Jarvis, Meryn and Gregory Campbell, Taner, Emma and Aiden Campbell; two step grandchildren, Kimberly and Kevin Allen; eight great-grandchildren, Jessica, Luke, Joshua and Ethan VanAlstine, Caleb, Taylor, and Jack Jarvis and Bella Campbell; in addition to many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace and his sisters, Margaret, Charlotte and Barbara. Friends will meet with the family on Thursday February 16th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the

Funeral Services will be held at the Allegan Methodist Church on Friday February 17th at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Robert Stover will officiate with interment at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Allegan County Fair.
