Larry Mallar

Lawrence N. Mallar, 73 dies June 19, 2013 Summerfield, Florida, Larry Mallar 73, died today June 19, 2013.

Mr. Mallar was born in Maine and graduated from American International College in Springfield, Mass. He saw duty as race secretary at Laurel Raceway, Foxboro raceway, Scioto Downs, Green Mountain Race Track and then Roosevelt Raceway for eighteen years. During that time, he also handled racing duties at Goshen’s Historic Track.

After the closing of Roosevelt Raceway, he went to Michigan and served as General Manager of Michigan Harness Horsemen’s Association for sixteen years, until his retirement and moved to Florida. He left his imprint many places and mentored such young people as Sam McKee and T.J. Burkett.

Larry is survived by his wife Gro; son Larry F. Mallar; daughters, Shari Jo Licitra(Michael); Kim Allison Mallar-Salsberg (Danny); and grandsons Michael Joseph Licitra; Daniel Joseph Salsberg; and granddaughters Bethany Marie Licitra and Lara Elizabeth Salsberg. Also step children Daniel Riordan (Tracey); Monique Caterina (Todd); step-grandsons Eric Caterina, Nicolas; and Patrick Riordan, Paige.

There will be a memorial service at Stonecrest Golf Club on Friday, June 21st at 1 p.m.
