TECUMSEH, Mich. Lawrence Young, age 78, of Tecumseh died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor.
He was born Oct. 16, 1933, in Milan, to Ralph and Mabel (Lawrence) Young. On June 12, 1954, in Adrian, he married Barbara Meyer. Lawrence was a 1951 graduate of Tecumseh High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Lawrence was self-employed as a farmer and as an owner, driver, breeder and trainer in harness horse racing. He was the winner in more than 640 races during his career. Lawrence was a member of the Michigan Harness Horseman’s Association and the United States Trotting Association.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara; one son, Jeff (Marlene) Young of Adrian; two daughters, Janeen (Dennis) Fry of Britton and Amy (Steve) Million of Adrian; one brother, Phil (Ilene) Young of Mason; one sister, Johanna Lane of Chandler, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Young.
Funeral services for Lawrence will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2012, at the Anderson Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with Pastor James Brantingham officiating. Burial will be in Marble Park Cemetery, Milan. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Anderson Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
