Patti Gira inducted into MHHA Hall of Fame

LANSING, MI – Patti Gira of Sand Creek, Michigan, in Lenawee County, was inducted into the Michigan Harness Horseman’s Hall of Fame at the MHHA annual banquet in Novi, Michigan. Patty has been a member of MHHA for over 30 years and currently serves on the Board of Directors. She has also been on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Standardbred Breeders Association for 25 years.

Patty has over 40 years of full time work in the harness racing industry and has raised and sold hundreds of yearlings at Oldfield Farm. She has sold and acted as agent for clients at yearling and mixed sales not only in Michigan, but also in Harrisburg and Lexington, Kentucky, and at the Hoosier Classic in Indiana.
In 1986 Patti and her husband Bill stood their first stallion, ARMBRO CADET, who went on to produce many Michigan Champions. Other stallions came to Patti’s farm over the next 30 years such as WALL STREET BANKER, SILVER ALMAHURST, BROWNING BLUE CHIP, CHAMPAGNE LOBELL, EVER SO RICH, DAVANTI, and COVENTRY. In total these stallions sired winners of over $75million.

Well over 1,700 foals have been born at Oldfield Farm over the years, including three World Champions: FINAL CHEERS, LADYFIELD, and ROCK’EM. Oldfield Farm also raised 125 horses that earned more than $100,000 including two horses that were million-dollar winners.

In 1997 she and her husband Bill started the Great Lakes Select Yearling Sale at the MSU Livestock Pavilion in East Lansing, Michigan. Over 13 years, the Great Lakes Select Yearling Sale sold 1,400 yearlings totaling over $8.2 million.

In 2004 and 2005 the Gira’s bred, raised and raced THIN BLUE LINE p,2yo,1:52.1m; 3yo,1:51.3m; 1:50.3* ($816,644) who was the fastest 2 and 3-year-old Michigan sired pacer ever. In 2005 THIN BLUE LINE won the Windy City Pace at Maywood Park, making it the largest purse ever won by a Michigan Standardbred.
