Peggy Jean Schneider- VanCoughnett, (nee Rousseau) age 88, of Clare, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2013, at her home. She was born the daughter of Francis and Mildred (Garrison) Rousseau on Nov. 11, 1924, in Saginaw. She had worked for 25 years for Lufkin Precision Tools. Peggy married George “Shorty” Schneider in 1957 and he preceded her in death in 1978. She was married to Sheldon Irish for a few years and he died. She married Robert VanCoughnett in 1987 and he survives her. Peggy and “Shorty” moved to Clare from Saginaw in 1967 where she drove Bus for Clare Public Schools for 12 years. She was a member of the Clare Eagles Club, had volunteered at the Clare Hospital for several years. She enjoyed Horse training and Harness Racing, bowling, golfing, and time with family and friends.
Survivors include her husband Robert, her daughter, Nancy (Kenny) Weigold of Saginaw, step children, Debbie Boulanger and Shawn VanCoughnett, her brother Don Rousseau of Freeland, sister-in-law Betty Donahue, Grandchildren Tina and Tim Weigold, Holly Foy, Skip and Steve Schneider, Joe Boulanger, Danielle and Elaine. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Noah and Sidney. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husbands, George “Shorty” and Sheldon, and her brother Jim Rousseau.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 11 AM from the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home with burial to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Saginaw. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 8 PM. The family wishes to thank all of Peggy’s caregivers through Heartland Hospice and ask that memorials be directed to Heartland Hospice.
