Richard Allan Williams,76, a long-time resident of Charlotte, Michigan peacefully passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, September 28, 2013. Richard was born June 27, 1937 in Battle Creek, Michigan. The son of Edna (Knoll) and Richard Williams, Dick was preceded in death by both is parents and his siblings, Joyce, Bill and Rodger Williams.
He was married to Joyce Arlene (Donihue) Williams of Gull Lake for 54 years. Dick is survived by his sister, Louise Chapman of East Leroy, MI and his children; Timothy (Claudine Hannold) Williams of Charlotte, Dawne Cohoon of Lansing, Robin Wolever, Cheryl (Trent) Smith of Charlotte; grandchildren: Ashia (Christopher Cosey) Smith of Atlanta, GA, Hunter Smith, Danielle Cohoon, Travis Cohoon, Scott Wolever and Raychel Wolever; and his great-grandchildren, Ares and Taj Cosey.
Richard “Dick” Williams was a Michigan State Police Trooper from 1960-1985. He retired as a Detective Lieutenant with the Fire Marshall Division in Lansing. He was one of the first MSP dog handlers along with his cherished German Sheppard, Hondo.
Dick owned and trained a number of successful harness horses over the years. This hobby and his family were his passion. For many years following his retirement from the Michigan State Police, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Joyce. They spent winters in the south running a number of harness horse race tracks where he will be missed by many friends and business associates.
Per Dick”s wishes, a private memorial will be held with his immediate family.
