Michigan Hall of Fame horseman, Ron Wrenn, (62) passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014 after a short battle with cancer. He was a member of one of Michigan’s founding families of harness racing, following in the footsteps of his father, Howard. Ron’s brothers Gary, Mark and Peter have all had success in harness racing. Ron was inducted into the Michigan Harness Racing Hall of Fame in 2009.
According to the USTA’s driving statistics, Ron won 1995 races and over $6 million in purses. Some of the horses he enjoyed success with were Hot Selection p, 3, 1:53.3 ($129,329), Time to Cash p, 3, 1:56.3f ($492,472) and Say Woe p, 1:57.3f ($257,482).
Surviving are his wife Mary; a son, Ronnie, daughters Sandy and Katherine; brothers Peter (Melanie) and Gary (Dawn); a twin sister, Phyllis (Bob) Etienne; a sister Lynn (Keith) Koeffler and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Howard and Joyce and a brother Mark.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014 at St. Augustine Church, 6481 Faussett Road, Howell, MI. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service.
