Safety Vest Program for Members


The Michigan Gaming Control Board, as part of new administrative rules, is instituting a policy that will require everyone at Northville Downs to wear a safety vest whenever they are on the track. The MHHA continues to support efforts to maintain safety for everyone involved with harness racing here in Michigan.

However, we understand that the cost of these items can be a burden to our members, especially after a year like 2020 where live racing opportunities were limited due to covid-19. As such, the MHHA intends to cover half the cost of purchasing a new safety vest up to $150.00 (vest with a $300.00 total cost) to help members from the MHHA general fund. Details on all the requirements are listed below:


  • Must be a 2021 MHHA Members in Good Standing.
    • Members can pay their 2021 membership ($50) by clicking here or downloading and returning the paper form.
  • Members must submit a copy of their receipt/invoice for a safety vest to or mail in a paper copy to prove their purchase.
  • The MHHA will only cover the costs of vests purchased between January 1st, 2021, and June 1st, 2021. Invoices/Receipts must show the date of the purchase. Limit 1 vest per member.

Upon receipt of the proper documents, the MHHA will mail you a paper check. Please allow 2-3 weeks to receive your check from the MHHA.

UPDATE: Judy Retana of Baker Turf Supply (618-624-6566) is a possible source for available and reasonably priced safety vests. Members may want to reach out if they are having problems finding vests.
