SIRE STAKES IN NORTHVILLE PAYS OUT MORE THAN $250K

LANSING – Standardbred summer fair racing ended the season with the Sire Stakes at Northville Downs in Northville, Michigan on September 29, 2015 with eight races and total winnings of $267,000. All horses entered in the races were Michigan sired.

“The Sire Stakes is the culmination of the season’s best two-year-old and three-year-old Michigan harness horses running the one-mile track at Northville Downs,” said MHHA President Tom Barrett, “we work the entire season to show off Michigan sired horses on this day. Although we raced in a torrential downpour, our owners, trainers, breeders and drivers were happy to be racing and enjoying a day at the track.”

The Frank Goodwin Memorial, three-year-old- filly pacers, was won by Girllookatthatbody. Driver Brad Kramer drove to a stellar finish in 2 minutes and 2 seconds. Those placing shared a purse of $34,000 for this division. Girllookatthatbody is trained and owned by Kelly Goodwin.

The eighth and final race, The Dick Steig Memorial, had owner Libby Myers bursting with pride as her three-year-old colt Iwillmakeyousaywow paced over the mile-long track to finish in one minute, 59 seconds!“

This day at the races shows Michigan sired horses are as competitive as any out there,” said MHHA Vice President Kelly Goodwin. “We’ve got the best place in the world to grow and race our horses, it’s time to rebuild the industry!’

The Doug Ackerman Memorial, two-year-old filly trotters, was won by You Know Hoo as she thundered past spectators at the 100-year-old track. Phat Stacks won the Larry Jones Memorial, two-year-old Michigan colt trotters. Kick It In Kate, won the two-year-old-filly pacers in the Frank and Kay Marotta Memorial. Nursery Ed took to the track with other two-year-old colt pacers to win the Bobnoxious Race. PT Kaye won the Mark Jones Memorial, three-year-old-filly trotters. The Dick Sykes Memorial was won by OL’s Whatasurprise in the three-year-old colt trotters.
