Programs
The MHHA provides several types of programming for its members here in Michigan...
Pari-Mutuel Racing The MHHA offers Pari-Mutuel racing at Northville Downs, located in Downtown Northville, which opened in 1944. Northville Downs contracts with the MHHA to offer live harness racing in the Spring and Fall.
Summer Fair Program Every year the Michigan Harness Horsemen's Association, in partnership with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Michigan Association of Fairs and Exhibitions, and county fairs across the state work hard to provide racing opportunities for harness horses here in Michigan. The Summer Fair Program provides both overnight races and specific racing opportunities for 2 and 3-year-old horses.
Breeders Awards The Horse Racing Act of 1995 allows for “a sum to pay breeders’ awards in an amount not to exceed 10% of the gross purse to breeders of Michigan bred standardbred harness horses for each time the horse wins a race at a licensed race meeting or fair in this state.” The MHHA encourages all the Harness Horse Breeders to make sure they are registered with the MI Dept. of Agriculture and Rural Development to ensure these payments go out to each eligible breeder.
