Aftercare

Life After Racing: Have a Standardbred racehorse that is retiring?

The new Placement Liaison Program from the Standardbred Transition Alliance can help!

Designed to streamline the process of finding a quality aftercare program for the new retiree, the PLP acts as a conduit to help owners navigate the transition process by being the direct connection to an accredited aftercare organization and the USTA.

(The primary purpose of this program is to assist horses in their first transition from racing— a horse must have a race line within a reasonable period of time to be eligible.)

Three simple forms start the process—the Placement Liaison Program will take it from there! The Owner(s) donating the horse will:

  1. Complete STA Intake Agreement

  2. Complete STA Horse Info Form

  3. Complete STA Vet Form

  4. Gather valid Coggins test, health papers and veterinary records (if available)

  5. Be responsible for completing any additional adoption program forms

  6. Make shipping arrangements to deliver horse directly to STA accredited aftercare facility

Completed forms can be emailed as a PDF to: administrator@standardbredtransition.org

Once the forms are received, the STA will review and serve as the first point of contact between an available STA Accredited Aftercare Organization and the Owner/Trainer. As soon as the referral is passed off, the STA is no longer in the equation, except to ensure that the United States Trotting Association has received the documents necessary to process USTA Transfer of Ownership, conversion to Pleasure Horse Registry, and Full Circle enrollment.
